LGBT Volunteer Foiled in Attempt to Shoot-up Family Research Council

The Family Research Council is a Christian organization promoting traditional family values and supporting the traditional definition of “family.” The shooter had volunteered at a LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, & Trans-sexual) organization. This happened yesterday.

Has anyone called for increased gun-control rights in Washington D.C., where this happened? Has anyone blamed the LGBT organization for naming the Family Research Council as a “hate group”? If so, I have not heard it. Could it be because this hate-filled shooter was trying to shoot (kill?) Christians who opposed the radical agenda of LGBT? This, of course, would not fit the media “narrative” of hate-crazed conservatives being the “shooters” in domestic terrorism.

He even carried a Chick-Fil-A bag and claimed to be an intern to gain entry. Chick-Fil-A, of course, is at the center of a storm because of the Christian values of its owners – and their refusal to “knuckle under” and keep quiet about their conviction that marriage involves two sexes, just as it has from Creation – and that a sexual union of two men or two women does not qualify as a marriage.

This entire controversy reminds me of a story told about Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln, it seems, asked, “If you call a cow’s tail a leg, how many legs does a cow have?” When someone answered five, Lincoln replied, “No, a cow has four legs. Calling a cow’s tail a leg does not make it a leg. It is still a tail.”

Similarly, calling a homosexual union a marriage does not make it a marriage. It is still a homosexual union.

As far as I know, even the ancient Greeks – notorious for homosexuality – did not call those unions “marriage” in their laws and customs. That is a thoroughly modern concept intended to draw a cloak of respectability over what God has always called sin.

But before you say that makes God guilty of “hate,” remember: God loves the entire world, including all of the world’s sinners (and I think that is all of the world). Nor should you say that I am guilty of “hate” for pointing out that God views homosexual unions as sin – in the same way that He views heterosexual unions outside the marriage covenant as sin. And, quite frankly, there are more heterosexual unions that are sinful (in raw numbers) than there are homosexual unions that are sinful.

The church needs to be more upset about the heterosexual sin than it is; perhaps that would make its outrage about homosexual sin more credible and seem less like “hate” speech. After all, if we love heterosexual people, while rebuking their sin then can’t we also love homosexual sinners while rebuking their sinful behavior?

Let’s not be “selective” in our outrage.
