Esther lived in a dangerous time. Haman was a trusted counselor to the king – and he hated Jews. Esther was a Jewish orphan elevated to be the Queen over Persia.

Haman had manipulated the king into signing a decree that on a set day all Jews would be killed and their property appropriated by their murderers. Esther was to approach the king to try to stop this. To do so was to risk her life. But her uncle, Mordecai, challenged her to go ahead, because

Who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?

We also have come to a royal position, for:

You are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light. – 1 Peter 2:9

Having become a royal priesthood, I am to act royally, as a child of the King, and in a way that will show His praises. I have a serious mission in the world as the representative of Him who has called me to be His.

He has saved me. He called me out of darkness into His light. He has shown me mercy. I am to respond with service as a worker together with Him. He has given me a royal position. He has brought me into the Kingdom of God “for such a time as this.

I live in a dangerous time for people of God. There is kingdom work to be done.

How will I respond?

This Table calls me to serve daily and faithfully.
