SERMON: Bowl of Beans for an Inheritance

Did you ever think about receiving an inheritance? Usually, we would be embarrassed to admit to it, but evidently Jacob did think about getting his inheritance – and about how to get his brother’s double portion!

We remember the story of Jacob & Esau, mostly because of Jacob’s trickery & duplicity. The Hebrew writer remembered it because of Esau’s foolishness.

See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. He could bring about no change of mind, though he sought the blessing with tears. – Hebrews 12:15-17.

On the one hand, Esau made good sense.

Look, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me? (Genesis 25:32)
