A Communion Meditation…

God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son. – Genesis 18:8

Abraham and Isaac were climbing Mount Moriah. God had told Abraham to offer his only son, whom he loved, as a sacrifice there. Isaac, as they climbed, asked, “Where is the sacrifice.” When Abraham said God would provide, he said more than he realized.

At the top of the mountain, he bound Isaac and laid him on the altar. This was the son God had provided him in his old age when Sarah’s womb was dead. This was the son God had said would make Abraham’s seed a great nation.

Yet, Abraham laid him on the altar. He believed God would do what He said. He was willing to offer his son because he believed God would raise Isaac from the dead.

As Abraham had his knife at the throat of Isaac ready to slaughter the sacrifice, God stopped his hand. Abraham then saw a ram caught in a thicket.

God had provided the lamb for the sacrifice.

John saw Jesus…and said, “Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” – John 1:29

Do I trust Him the way Abraham trusted God?
